Medical Waste Disposal NJ

Citiwaste is a respected medical waste disposal company in New Jersey, providing streamlined management, collection, transportation and safe disposal throughout Bergen, Essex, Hudson and Middlesex Counties. As an experienced supplier of biohazardous and medical waste management services since 2006, our team is dedicated to protecting healthcare professionals and the general public from potential contaminants and health risks associated with regulate medical waste (RMW).

By working with a company that is fully licensed, trained and insured, you can rest assured all sharps, pharmaceutical and red bag waste, and pathological waste is being disposed of in accordance with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the NJ Comprehensive Regulated Medical Waste Management Act. Our principal focus is ensuring clients remain fully compliant with all state and federal regulations.

Regulated waste management oversight in New Jersey

The New Jersey Comprehensive Regulated Medical Waste Management Act (NJSA) was signed into law in 1989 in response to syringes and pathological waste that washed onto Monmouth and Ocean County coasts two years prior. RMW is characterized as any solid waste that is produced in the diagnosis, treatment or immunization of humans or animals, in treatment and research, or the testing or production of biologicals. This includes laboratory stocks and cultures, discarded live vaccines, liquid waste from human blood, bodily fluids, tissues and organs, sharps such as syringes, lancets and scalpel blades, as well as isolation wastes exposed to highly communicable diseases.

In 1993, the New Jersey Departments of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Health and Senior Services (DHSS) devised a comprehensive plan for all regulated medical waste that was focused on meeting the state's immediate and long-term needs. The New Jersey RMW State Plan oversees the safe management, transport and disposal of more than 89,000 tons of medical waste annually.

NJ state regulations stipulate that all RMW generators, handlers and disposal facilities track medical waste from cradle to grave, to maintain full compliance. A New Jersey RMW Tracking Form must be completed for each medical waste shipment, regardless of size or quantity.

New Jersey's RMW State Plan, in conjunction with EPA regulations, endeavors to protect the public from the environmental and health hazards posed by the improper disposal of medical waste. Over the last two decades, the number of incidents involving medical waste beach wash-ups in NJ has dropped dramatically.
